Barracuda Attack
This discussion topic submitted by Gary (glreno@hotmail.com) on 8/5/99.
I was in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico last week (07-28-99). I saw two large barracuda on 2 separate dives. After the dives. I mentioned the fish to a local tour guide, who told me a barracuda killed a tourist/diver last week nearby. He said that the tourist was wearing a shiny necklace, and the barracuda bit the neck of the tourist, causing her to bleed to death. I suspected this was more local folklore until another tourist guide, one who is American and that I have known for awhile, repeated the story. These two tourist guides were miles apart and both had the same story. The American told me there was a local newspaper article about it, and had the picture of the victim in the paper. If anyone has any further info, please respond.
