Bird is the Word!

Hello Julie!

I thought I would share our recent e-mail conversation with the class:

How about a broad overview of birds in S. Florida and the Bahamas. You could focus on a variety of ecosystems (freshwater marsh, mangroves, shoreline, intertidal, and islands) and then tell us about the important inhabitants. For instance, what types of birds are found in mangroves? are they permanent residents? Do they just nest there? Go into their ecology (feeding guilds?), migration patterns, morphology and body design, etc.

Could you develop a species list of birds by environment for south florida and the Bahamas that we might expect to see? I'd like us to develop "an on-going list" while we are in the field. Would you manage this list during the course? The idea of a field guide is terrific!

And, don't forget to post a complete outline with sources.
