M. quinquenervia - hey, what IS this thing?!

The paperbarks situation in Australia is obviously very different from Florida! Here, healthy Melaleuca stands are declining. I'm working on a management plan for a Melaleuca wetland on Australia's east coast which is a floodplain swamp that has been drained for 100 years. Since 3o years a tidal barrage stops salt water intrusion. Because of acid sulfate issues this barrage will probably be opened in the near future. What impacts on the paperbark forest do we have to expect?!
I'm after information about the biology of Melaleuca quinquenervia. Is there anybody who is familiar with its adaptions to flooded and salt waterlogged conditions? I'd be grateful for any information! Thanks
