Sea Snakes in the Caribbean

Whilst in thr Eastern Caribbean, specifically Dominica,recently, my party was assured that sea snakes did indeed exist in these waters. The (?) reliable sources of this phenomonon were a "boat boy" and a medical student. They assured us that, while not abundant, they did exist and proceeded to "spot" one near our boat. Is this to be believed?
Are we the subjects of a cruel joke? Ridicule?
