1. Introduction
a. For this project our hypothesis is that women are more inclined to be intuitive and subjective in their scientific research whereas men are more objective and prone to justify research by the available technology or by pragmatic economics.
b. We plan to focus our analysis on discrepancies between the genders by using a survey as a constant.
c. This research is significant because most major discoveries made during scientific research did not answer the question being pursued. This seems to invalidate the glory of total objectivity and give credence to inspired thinkers.
2. Relevance of your research question
a. At this point we have not been able to find any other data that is similar to our research.
3. Materials and Methods
a. Our experimental design is to pass a survey of 5-10 questions to different science professors and science students at Miami University. This survey does not include any questions that relate to gender specifics; we are doing this in hopes of illuminating any biases that our surveyors might obtain through questions that we would ask.
b. The only materials that we will be using are our surveys.
c. We will involve the class by providing an experiment that is unrelated to our topic and allow the students to come up with a way to execute the experiment without our assistance individually. While they are doing this experiment we will observe the differences that occur between men and women. We will report those differences that we perceive at the end of our presentation.
d. Due to the area of our research we do not feel that a data sheet is necessary.
e. By October 5 we will have the final draft of our survey finished. By week 11 all of our data will have been collected. Our student generated lab will be completed by week 16.
