This Progress Report submitted by Matt Russell and Julie Bayer[e-mail:BAYERJA@MiaVX1.muohio.edu] on 4/1/98.

It's been a little while, but we're back! We're starting to read more of E.O. Wilson's books and his findings. We are also looking at Richard Dawkin's "Selfish Gene". We will post our findings after this weekend...BUT we have been working on a survey, which will be very significant to our final paper. We are going to compare our results on humans with the research we have on other social organisms, like bees. Here's our survey, we would love to have some critiques before we send it out!

SURVEY
1. Circle one: Male Female

2. Do you plan to have children?

3. Would you ever consider adopting children?

4. Are there any groups or causes (examples: religion, country, activist group, ethnicity, etc.) that you would be willing to sacrifice your life for? If yes, please specify what it is.

5. If you were in labor (Males, please just imagine that some scientist came up with a way which enabled you to participate too!) and something went wrong and your doctor could save either you or your baby, which would you choose?

6.(A) You and a family member are aboard a sinking ship (original or what!) and there is only one seat left on the last rescue boat. The decision is yours on who will take the seat and live. Would you :
a. take it yourself
b. give it to a family member
c. give it to the stranger next to you
PS-the water is too cold to swim and this is the last chance for survival.

(B)If you answered "b" please specify all the family members this would include (mother, brother, aunt, grandfather etc.)

7. If one of your close friends had an absolute emergency and needed you to take him/her to the airport that night, but it was the same night you:
(Given: there are no other times that your friend can go; there are no other ways for your friend to get there; the emergency can be whatever, but it must be the worst situation you could possibly imagine) [Please answer all (1-4)]
(1) had a job interview you couldn't miss or someone else would most likely get the job. (Given: this job was really important to you and you thought you had a good chance)
WOULD YOU TAKE YOUR FRIEND AND MISS THE INTERVIEW?

(2) had the chance to go on your favorite game show and most likely win a lot of money.(Given: you were very skilled at this game; this would be your only chance to ever go on; the money you might win would not just be pocket change)
WOULD YOU TAKE YOUR FRIEND AND MISS THE GAME SHOW?

(3) had planned a night to be alone and have a great time with just yourself--away from your hectic schedule--to just cool down. (Given: this could include whatever your favorite passtimes are)
WOULD YOU TAKE YOUR FRIEND AND MISS YOUR NIGHT OUT?

(4) had just gotten back from a long road trip on which your car began stalling randomly. You had said that the next place you were going to drive it was the shop to get it checked out. However, even though the temperatures dropped to -30 degrees F, your friend is still willing to take the chance to get to the airport. (Given: the only way to get to the airport is back roads)
WOULD YOU TAKE THE RISK ANYWAY FOR YOUR FRIEND AND TAKE HIM/HER TO THE AIRPORT?

Okay, that's all of the survey. Please critique it!
Thanks!
