The Myth of Monogamy

This progress Report submitted by Kendra Klein and Moira Lynch[e-mail:Kleinkc@miavx1.muohio.edu] on 3/22/98.

During our poster project, we covered other forms of marriage inother cultures, and alternative relationships within our own country. We now plan on focusing on divorce rates within our own country to support our questioning of monogamy. We plan on developing a survey to gather information about divorce from our peers, but we would like to conduct more research before formulating the questions. We anticipate obtaining a wealth of information on divorce rates but hope to narrow the information so that it applies to our original hypothesis. For example, the history of divorce laws and rulings compared to the success of marriages in our country. The survey will help us to understand the feeling among our age group about the commitment of marriage as a result of their own personal experience. Their comments will help us project what values are important within our own generation in the area of traditional marriage. We will work together on the research and will probably divide up the reading. We will both work on composing the survey and evaluating the results.
