Leaf Decay Draft#1

This article submitted by McMinn, Mayher, Roush, Nudelman, Petronella on 9/21/97.

Our group decided to test the rate of leaf decay in several condidtions. We are still debating over whether to use one type of leaf or two, however we are certain that we will use deciduous trees. We Will test the rate of decay in the leaves by massing the leaves at certain intervals, most likey being once per week. We will submerse some in water, most likey the duck pond, and use distilled water as a control. We will also place leaves in two different positions above ground, wet(mud) and dry. In the above ground environments, we will also test the affect of sun and shade. For this lab, we will need some sort of floatation device and an anchor for the water, mesh containing the leaves, a scale to mass the leaves and, of course, the leaves.
