This article submitted by James Krapp, Melissa Dalton, Kate Kelsey, Brian R. on 9/29/97.

Question:
Do vines growing in Western woods on Miami's campus favor certain species of trees?

Introduction:
Three types of vines grow in this area: Grape, honeysuckle, and ivy. By compiling research about vine and tree preferences, we hope to determine why vines favor certain trees.

Hypothesis:
Vines favor certain species of trees over other species.

Research design and methods:
-Research of area vines and trees will be compiled
-a field guide containing color pictures and descriptions of area vines and trees will be made
-class will be broken into groups of three or four. Each group will be given a field guide and a data sheet and sent out to different areas of western woods to collect data-which vines grow on what.ll be collected from areas of differing density: a densly forested area, an open field, an overgrown field, a lightly forested area, and an area by water.
-we will continue to observe vines in each area at different times of the day: morning, noon, and night to determine total exposure to sun.
-data will be compiled and analyzed statystically to show correlations
