Competition and Adaptation Among Upper-Ordivician Brachiopods: Draft#1
This article submitted by Steven A. Morio [e-mailto: MORIOSE@MiaVX1.MUOhio.Edu ] on 10/1/97.
My plan is to look at the relationship between Brachiopoda size and species throughout the Cincinnatian series, focusing primarily, if not entirerly on the Richmodian stage for the sake of availability. Based on what i have seen and collected thus far, i am able to identify some of the most common Brachiopod genus such as Glyptorthis, Platystrophia, anmd Plaesiomys (all belonging to the order Orthida). Given the abundance of these fossils it follows that these creatures were very successful in their environment. By looking at the relative abundance and size of the different species throughout time i hope to uncover patterns that indicate the adaptations occuring in different species that helped or hindered the growth of the different Brachiopods. The scope and specifics of this project are still somewhat ambiguous and i hope to clarify the goal and methods of the project as data (fossils) and some research help to fill in the gaps.
