Draft 2: Sea Level Rise: What's Next?

This topic submitted by Scott and Nicki ( Barkersp@muohio.edu nickilyn17@hotm ) on 2/5/02 .

Our Research Question:
If sea level rises in the future as predicted, what are the possible consequences?

Predictions:
Based on oxygen isotope dating and geologic evidence, scientists have been able to model how sea level has fluctuated in the
past. In the past, extensive glaciation has resulted in a drop in sea level. Interglacial time periods of global warming and ice
melt have resulted in sea level rise. We are currently living in an interglacial period and naturally global temperatures should be
rising. However, the rate at which the temperature is rising is alarming, and scientists predict sea level to rise faster due to
expansion of water and ice caps melting due to warmer temperatures.
