Black Vulture Size: 25" (64 cm); 1.8 kg. Diet: Scavenges for carcasses of dead animals or human trash. Also preys heavily upon sea turtle hatchlings. Also eats some fruits, including bananas and fruits of oil palm and royal palm trees. Voice: Normally quiet; on rare occasion will hiss or grunt. Status: Found countrywide, although rare at upper altitudes (above 6500 ft). Also, most common in open country, less abundant in more heavily forested areas.
