Cinnamon Woodpecker
Celeus loricatus

Size: 8 1/4" (21 cm); 83 g.

Diet: Eats ants and termites. Pecks into laurel (Cordia alliodora) and Cecropia trees to find them.

Voice: Ringing series of 3-5 notes, decending in key: peee-peew-peu-pu.

Status: Locally uncommon to fairly common in Caribbean lowland and foothill froests.

Cool Fact: Nest is a hole carved by both parents, into soft wood of a tree, 20-30 ft above the ground. A living or recently dead tree is usually used. Eggs are laid between March and May.
