Black-Faced Solitare
Myadestes melanops

Size: 6 3/4" (17 cm); 33 g.

Diet: Many fruits, berries, and seeds.

Voice: High-pitched, leisurely whistles, with flute-like transitions and undulations. Very beautiful.

Status: Common in areas that are protected or not easily accessible, but has been greatly reduced in number in many other areas, due to the cage-bird trade.

Cool Fact: This bird is sometimes known in Spanish as the "jilguero" (finch) and is often kept as a cage bird, because it has such a beautiful song.
