Brown Jay
Cyanocorax morio

Size: 15 1/2" (39 cm); 235 g.

Diet: Insects, spiders, small frogs and lizards, fruits (both wild and cultivated), corn, and nectar from banana and balsa flowers. Also known to occasionally robs nests of smaller birds.

Voice: Strident, often repeated cry: pyaaaah or chaaa.

Status: Common in deforested areas of central highlands and Caribbean slope. Becoming increasingly common on Pacific slope, spreading with deforestation.

Cool Fact: Also common to volcanoes, from sea level to 8,200 ft (2,500 m).
