Ornate Hawk-Eagle
Spizaetus ornatus

Size: 25" (63 cm); 1.2 kg.

Diet: Medium-sized mammals, lizards, snakes, and birds. Known to eat birds as big as guans or vultures!

Voice: Loud whistle, in descending notes: huweee-whee-whi-whi-whi-whi-whi.

Status: Increasingly rare. Actually usually found in lowland and foothill rainforests, but wanders to higher locations (as high as 10,000 ft) in search of remaining habitats.
