Resplendent Quetzal
Pharomachrus mocinno

Size: 14" (36 cm), plus up to 25" (64 cm) for male's longest tail feathers (called "streamers"); 210 g.

Diet: Mostly fruits, but also insects, small frogs and lizards, and snails. Avocado is a favorite fruit.

Voice: Most commonly a quick cackle: perwicka. Male's song is deep, slurred, simple melody: keow kowee keow k'loo keow keeloo...

Status: Fairly common in well-forested areas. Also stays in largely deforested areas if remaining forest includes good feeding and nesting sites.
