Campylopterus hemileucurus

Size: 6" (15 cm); Male: 11.5 g. Female: 9.5 g.

Diet: Nectar from flowers of several plants, including some epiphytes, some shrubs, and bananas. Despite being one of the larger hummingbirds, it is not aggressive or territorial about its flowers, and typically does not defend them.

Voice: Male's call is a series of variable notes, at evenly spaced intervals: cheep tsew cheep tik-tik tsew cheep... Both males and females give sharp twitters or chatters while at flowers.

Status: Locally common in the mountains, on both slopes, for the entire length of the country.

Cool Fact: A group, or "lek," of up to 10 males may gather and sing in saplings, in the forest understory or at the forest edge.
