Our group is going to examine the last 200 years of extinction events in the SW Ohio Valley. We are going to compile data regarding the loss of faunal species and organize the data into sets for interpretation and analysis.

We choose the 200 year period because we feel that in this time period, the Ohio Valley has experienced many important changes that lead to a species extinction. The influx of settlers, loss of habitat, invasive species, and habitat fragmentation are all part of these extinction processes.

We hypothesize that early in this 200 year period, when a large amount of natural habitat was disturbed, a large amount of species went extinct in a relatively short time. We believe that this rate of extinction slowed down for an interim period and then increased once again at the end of our research period due to anthropological sources. However, in the later incident, different causal factors may be present, such as pollution and other environmental factors.
