Mining in Corcovado National Park: A Case Study of Economic Decline and Environmental Degradation

This paper focuses on the gold rush in Corcovado National Park in the 1980s and its environmental implications. In Latin America, resource extraction by both local and international entities causes environmental degradation; however, with high inflation and debt, these countries need the income and employment to support their economies.
