There are national parks in Costa Rica?

Hey Roopa -

Just a reminder that your final outline submission is due on April 1. This isn't the five page paper, but it should be a more complete synthesis of the topics you wish to write about or discuss in your final paper and presentation.

There are lots of different ways to approach this topic. I suggested earlier that you check out my paper from 1999. I hope you have done so. Let me tell you, my presentation was way too long! I thought, well, I'll just pick out some of the bigger parks and talk about them. What I should have done is picked out one or two at the most. Fifteen minutes flies by when you have a lot to talk about.

If you haven't already done so, pick out a park on which to focus. Each park has particular fauna and flora that live there, migrate there, breed there, or otherwise visit. Find out some of the unique aspects of the park and tell us about them. Consider the size of the park, the geography/geology of the area, how it is protected (is it a national park or just a preserved area), what kinds of forests grow there (there are so many different forest types in Costa Rica), the economic impacts of keeping it a park (rather than allowing clearcutting or harvesting), the environmental impacts of such, and maybe anything about the indigenous peoples that use that park/area.

That should be enough from me for now. Good luck!
Becky
