Coral reefs are aragonite structures produced by living organisms, found in shallow, tropical marine waters with little to no nutrients in the water. Coral reefs have been around for millions of years and have grown and shrunken in diversity of species to the change in pH levels in the water. Just as the coral reefs have changed over time, so have rainforest. Rainforests are forests characterized by high rainfall, with definitions setting minimum normal annual rainfall between 1750 mm and 2000 mm. Some people say that coral reefs are the rainforests of the world, but from reading the Enchanted Braid, it states that rainforests should be the coral reefs of the world. I want to compare the two habitats to learn more about their diversity, how resilient and able they are to adaptation, and how humans are involved.
