For my discussion topic, I plan on teaching about the endangered Manatee in Florida and Caribbean waters and the human impact on its survival. I think this topic is important because without biodiversity in the oceans, we start to effect the entire food chain, eventually leading to our own endangerment. I feel like awareness for this issue is pretty limited, so hopefully this will get the information out to people who can or will make a difference.

OUTLINE

1. Introduction
The manatee
Why it's important

2. Background and development
Evolution and species history
biological traits and behaviors
Diet
Communication
Best Environments
Mating/ Reproductive practices

3. Types
Different regions inhabited by different species of manatees
Why these locations are ideal
Focus on Florida, Bahamas habitat
Why it is not ideal for them now

4. Endangered
What manatees need for survival,
How this is being disrupted
Natural deaths and predators
Human impact
Other contributing factors - global warming, disruption of other necesities

5. What has been done in the past
Protection areas
Conservation groups
Changes in human policy/ law toward the ocean

6. What should be done in the future
