In these modern environmentally conscious times, ecotourism has a risen as an influential and driving force in many small areas of the world. In this paper, I hope to discuss Ecotourism and its history, but more importantly look at the debate on whether it is in fact a useful tool in sustaining and perserving marine areas, specifically in the Bahamas.
Introduction -Basic definition of Ecotourism -Differences between Òregular tourismÓ and Ecotourism -What is necessary to call it Ecotourism -History of Ecotourism -within the Bahamas -outside
Comparison -differences and similarities to other areas around the word
Affects on environment -Benefits -Economic- Areas with Ecotourism provide a major financial benefit as a large industry within their community -Environmental- In an honest effort to remove some of the disastrous impact of normal tourism, ecotourism provides a more environmentally friendly alternative in comparison
-Drawbacks: The Argument against Ecotourism -Political -Financial concerns -Population Issues- Ecotourism draws in many projects and in some cases, displaces native populations -Environmental Impact- Whether or not Ecotourism in itself is actually low impact on the flora and marine life
Conclusion- Past, Present, and future: Where Ecotourism headed in the future within the Bahamas and other areas, and can there be answers to some of the drawbacks allowing for a widely agreed upon solution -Possibilities and Suggestions for future of Ecotourism
