We want to find out how submission and dominance affect human natuer. We are not so much going to examine guilt, but instead look at where the foundation of morals comes from. Usually morals are a reflection of the hierarchy instilled by each society. The spectrum from moral to immoral behavior differs greatly from culture to culture, because it is the hierarchy that determines what deviation is and its consequences. It is inevitable that there will be power struggles and some sort of hierarchy, but is it biologically or socially constructed? How does hierarchy cause usually dominant people to become submissive...for example, a prisoner of war? Is anyone really born submissive, or are they made to be submissive due to cultural constraints?

For our project we want to examine situations of submission and how it is justified in a variety of settings. For example, slavery, honor killings, and prisoners of war/torture.
