Interesting topic- very relevant to people our age, especially when considering how our perceptions of these things have changed since high school. How these people define popularity would be important- though you could probably get a sense for this in your questioning. I always thought it was interesting that most of the people who were labeled as members of the "popular" crowd in my high school weren't actually liked by many, which basically contradicts the label. They were your typical beautiful people, but I think their social behaviors also played a large part in it. That may be one other aspect you could look at- the activities and social behaviors that define each group. Also, you may want to consider questioning students from more than one school at each level- I assume that social hierarchies vary greatly from school to school. Good luck with your project!
