Umm....

"first and foremost we want to discover if humans are rational in the decisions they make."

That is a VERY difficult thing to make a judgement on. Rationality is a touchy subject. Under what context is the desicion rational? Evolutionarily? Socially? Practically?

The most basic definition of a "rational" desicion is one that is based on reason. If you are simply sudying whether there is a reason for humans doing somethng, how will you know? I am really questioning your ability to practically analyze this aspect of your project.

That being said, I really do like your idea to look at descions made in groups v. in private, and I think it is much easier to evaluate. My recommendation would be scrape the whole "rationality" side of your project.
