A project of the study of fall leave color change by
Molly Thomas, Sarah Price, Erika Merrell, and Zack Hausrath.
Through this project we gained a greater understanding of leaf color change by observing a number of variables. We compared four different species of trees in the Oxford area, with two trees of each species in forested areas, and two in open areas. We gained from this project an understanding of which species of trees change colors and lose their leave faster, as well as what colors each species changed, and whether the location of the tree (in the forest or in the open) had an effect on the rate of color change, or an effect on the colors that the leaves changed. The subject of leaf color change is one that is of great interest to many people, for countless reasons. Leaf color change has been studied in many different mediums, from art, to ecology, to the study of evolution. Through this project we explored all of the reasons that this subject is so significant, as well as why and how it happens.
