Long-Term Research Project Idea

We are going to try to see if there is a correlation between the climate and the amount of girls who eat frozen yogurt in Alex Dining Hall. We are also going to see if there is a correlation between the length of days and the amount of girls who eat frozen yogurt in Alex Dining Hall. We will compare the results, and determine whether the length of days or the climate has a greater effect on the amount of yogurt that is consumed.
If we see any patterns, we will integrate another variable to determine the causality of the patterns (such as stress tests, etcÉ).

We believe that the length of day will have a greater effect on the amount of people who eat frozen yogurt.

We will observe the yogurt (hereinafter referred to as ICE CREAM) machine, and record the amount of girls who get ice cream between the times of 6 and 6:30, Monday-Thursday in Alex Dining Hall at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, USA, 45056.

Abstract: Body produces many hormones in response to stress. But one in particular, cortisol, will send someone searching desperately for ice cream or other high-calorie foods to replenish the energy body believes it spent handling the stressful event. This system worked well for our ancestors, who expended lots of energy evading physical threats and needed extra calories to replace those they spent. Eating refined carbohydrates sets off a chain reaction that leads to the release of more cortisol. Very high-carb diets that do not include enough protein, fat, and fiber will make body crank out even more cortisol. Eating protein slows down the absorption of carbohydrates, keeping sugar levels in check. Including a bit of fat in meals and snacks will also help slow carbohydrate digestion, keeping blood sugar steady. Exercise is one of the most effective ways to manage stress. Performing moderate activity like swimming, walking, or yoga for 30 minutes a day on most days of the week can reduce cortisol and improve overall stress resilience.
