okay, well i've done some research on the studies that people have already done on the color effects of vertebrates.
so far i've found (i'm not really sure how to cite this) an academic jounal in Academic Press excerpt from Animal Behaviour called "Influence of body coloration on shoaling preferences on fish". The idea in this is that fish have that ability to choose which shoalmates to associate with based on appearance. The study found that black and white mollies spent more with fish of similiar colour and they discriminate on the basis of body colouration
