Do brachiopods differ from formation to formation? We hypothesize that the species of brachiopods we find will demonstrate the evolution of brachiopods from one stage of the Ordovician period to the next. We plan on traveling (without getting lost) to an outcrop in Indiana. (As long as Hays gives us the correct directions.) We will examine slabs of shale by the road side and try to identify which formation (Drakes, Whitewater, Liberty, Waynesville, or Arnheim) they belong to. Then we will examine the brachiopods within each slab and try to characterize which species/types correspond with each formation. Our conclusions will be drawn from this observation to illuminate the evolution of brachiopods during the Ordovician period.
