We wish to study the eating habits of birds in Oxford. Through doing this we will learn of the birds that are indigenous to this area. Our group will set up birdfeeders around Western campus in various locations, while recording data and observations of feeding at different times of the day. We are interested in experimenting with different types of food, and the behavior that accompanies the birds as the season changes. We predict that there will be a large gathering of common species such as: American Goldfinch, Chimney Swift, Blue Jay, Sparrow, European Starling, Crow, etc. We suspect there will be no unusual spottings. However, there is a possibility of some seasonal migration. We expect to see a more diverse number of species along the forest's edge. Suet will be used in the winter. Various foods will be chosen during the months prior. We also expect the birds to become dependent on the food provided (hopefully birdfeeding will become a Miami tradition).
