Draft 2.9: PLANT CHAT!

Our lab is measuring the effects of the emotional tones of human speech on plant growth. We have decided that we will be both verbally abusive to one group of plants and speak gently, nicely, like your grandmother who makes the best tollhouse chocolate chip cookies (although her secret is on the side of the keebler box) to another group. As controls, we will be reading a non-emotional passage (probably out of the NS reader :D) to a third group, and there will be a fourth group that we just plain ignore. One to three trays of pants will be used for each group, as there are always a few bad seeds... We plan on using bean plants, which have a good swift growth rate and many things that are easy to measure such as height, # of leaves, leaf size, stem thickness, etc. Pretty exciting, huh? (no, we did not just escape from Bedlam Asylum.)

Our hypothesis is that the group that we speak positively to will grow fastest and strongest. If our experimentation methods are correct, there should be little or no measurable difference between our two controls, while the group that we insult and slam will be runts.
suggestions are more than welcome!
