that the type of weather that dominated the growing season may effect how fast the leaves fall. I'm sure you know this, but the rings that make up the inner core of the tree not only give insight into the age of the tree but also the types of seasons that have passed. So, if this past summer received more precipitation than normal, thus making the tree a bit more hardier, the leaves may not fall so rapidly. Or v/v.
