Draft 1

1. Introduction

For our project, we plan to test how people react to different colors within shapes. Our hypothesis is that certain colors will bring out different emotions within these people, for example orange connotates aggression, blue is thoughtfulness, etc. We plan to determine if everyday objects that contain certain colors have effects toward our brain consciously or unconsciously. This research will be very interesting because people have subconscious reactions as a result of their sight that is evident in every day life.

2. Relevance of your research question

Through our research, we found out that the environment greatly effects behavior, the mind and body largely effect emotions, and by showing colors and everyday objects to a variety of people, many emotions can result such as passivity, aggression, anger, etc. This relates to the real world because the color of many objects is extremely important, like red stop signs, yellow warning signs, red warning labels, etc. We want to prove that through color, things have much more meaning.

3. Materials and Methods

We plan to interview various people, and show them different color samples, to see if a certain color effects them differently than another color. We think that people's emotions are greatly effected by the colors that they see.

The materials that we will use are fabric samples of various colors, or other materials of color, cut into the same shape each time, so as not to vary this part of the experiment. We will show the colors to many different people of all ages and sexes and ask them what effect the color has on them, if it makes them feel happy, sad, energetic, etc. We will involve the rest of the class in our study by including them in the group that we interview. The following will be our data sheet:

Age sex color emotion misc.

We will begin our research the week of October 11, 1999 and we will hand out ten surveys a day for a week. We will go to the library every Tuesday and Thursday to find facts about our research. After gathering our data we will then put it together and begin our papers.
