Isn't this Interesting??

Alex is working on a science fair experiment concerning this topic. We simplified the experiment to make it more age appropriate. We have 3 plants on the go. They are all the same plant. Plant #1 is watered with tap water. #2 is watered with filtered water. #3 is watered with polluted water. We made a simulated polluted water using biodegradable dish soap, urine and cigaerette butts and ashes. We based our hypothesis on the polluted plant dying because of the pollutants. In fact, the opposite is true. The polluted plant is thriving while there is no noticable change in the filtered plant and plant #1(tap water) has the most leaves dying. Thetap water is extracted from a well that our village dug and they add the following chemicals to it: chlorine and sodium hexametaphosphate. We are wondering why the polluted plant seems to be doing so well? Are there other factors that we are missing? Remember again Alex is in grade 2 and our teachers are on strike until who knows when.
