Draft 1: lookin' for lichen

This Progress Report submitted by Mike, Marisa, Creighton, Allison [e-mail:bradlecc@muohio.edu] on 9/22/99.

We plan to conduct a full-scale study regarding the different kinds of lichen in this area and the short-term and long-term effects of pollution on them. Our hypothesis is that the growth of each different kind of lichen will be adversely effected by pollution. We plan to test this hypothesis in a variety of ways. One involves testing the the air pollution in certain areas where lichen is abundant (or not abundant). The other involves concentrating a large volume of carbon monoxide in a lichen-populated area and seeing what the effects are. We would appreciate any suggestions or advice.
