Talking about Beauty

This Progress Report submitted by Joey, Melissa, Jenni, Ali [e-mail:jgomberg@aol.com] on 10/17/99.

Just to update you, our project is comparing society's definition of beauty with Miami University Students' definition.

For part of our research, we are doing a survey, in which we will ask students to describe their idea of beautiful men and women.
Our overall goal of the survey is to know if what society says is beautiful is the same as what the individuals here at Miami think are beautiful. Furthermore, does the individual use those same guidelines when selecting a mate.

We were thinking of using magazine pictures in our survey and comparing them, but we decided that wouldn't work. You see, magazine pictures will force people to choose among those who society has already deemed beautiful, not distinguish between society and the individual.

Right now, we are trying to come up with a good survey.
