Harker’s Run Group A (Sam Dunlap, Donna Zimmerman, Kaci Stewart)
Research Goals Our group plans to study the various aspects of the Harker’s Run watershed, including scientific, cultural, and social aspects. We will integrate these very different components into a cohesive idea of the watershed’s historical development and current condition.
Preliminary Interdisciplinary Research Design Specifically, we plan to measure the sediment load, stream velocity, discharge, vegetation, biodiversity, disturbance, and water chemistry. Also, we will study the geography and topography of the watershed area. From a social and cultural perspective, we will study the history of Harker’s Run as well as its present uses and the impact its presence has on the community and the university. To help us in this endeavor, we will discuss flood history, how the course of the river may have changed, and land uses (agriculture, grazing, recreation, etc.).
