A minor quibble. You list "philosophy" under "social sciences".It properly belongs under "humanities". Make sure you understand why.
"Ethics" is, of course, a subfield within phlosophy and the Philosophy Department regularly teaches a course in Environmental Ethics. You might try to obtain some of the syllabi from previous courses in order to see how philosophers and others have framed this issue and to get a handle on the considerable bibliography on environmental ethics (none of which is listed in your bibliography). Two authors who have written on environmental ethics with whom I am most familiar are Roderick Nash and E. Hargrove. You might want to check them out.
Still on the issue of ethics, I am not exactly clear what you mean when you state that one of the ethical questions you want to answer is: "What is the ethical responsibility or role that humans play in respect to the river system?" I guess that you mean "what responsibility should they have and what role should they play? Tread carefully in dealing with this very complex and open-ended question.
In your research proposal, you state your plan to interview "people that interact with the river" including those who use it for recreation. How do you plan to find out whoe these people are? And if you use interviews (as I think you need to), you need to design a proper protocol on which to base your interviews. (See my response to Team B/Western Pond's proposal.
