Draft 1-Life on the Four Mile: Conversations With People Who Live on Four Mile Creek

This topic submitted by Nathaniel Gay ( gaynl@muohio.edu ) on 1/23/03. [ Rivers Team: Nathaniel Gay-Section: Cummins/Kaufman]

Remember that documentary on the Hudson River? I loved how locals, people who actually lived on or around the Hudson, were interviewed about their individualized experiences with the river. Historians, fishermen, local politicians, poets, and others contributed priceless insights into the life of the river. I'd like to the same thing the people who live on Four Mile Creek.

I can't think of doing something more interesting than talking to the people who know Four Mile the best to gather their memories, opinions, and predictions of the creek. This project would involve taking some day trips to the residences of people who live on or near Four Mile Creek, either by themselves or in communities. Farmers, fishermen, yuppies, young, old, poor, well-off, liberal, conservative could all be interviewed to gather a variety of opinions. I'd love to walk into some local diner or shop armed with a tape recorder, sit down, and shoot the breeze with the locals on Four Mile. In the end, I would tie all the different perspectives into an interdisciplinary report, chock full of anecdotes and stories.
