Draft 1: Education and Four Mile Creek

This topic submitted by Lia Silver ( SILVERLE@muohio.edu ) on 1/23/03. [ Rivers Team: Lia Silver-Section: Garrison/Green]

I am interested in looking at education in relation to Four Mile Creek. How much do local residents know about the pollutants and quality of water in the area? Are they aware of means through which they can work toward a cleaner creek, with safer water for their children to play in? How much are children being educated in school about the history and science surrounding Four Mile Creek?

This project would involve testing the water, researching the history and culture behind the creek, and surveying/speaking with community members about their knowledge on the subject. I would also research various educational methods that can be used to educate both children and adults on the importance of being environmentally conscious. It would be interesting to even visit actual classrooms in the community to either observe a related science class or to educate the children about Four Mile Creek, as well.
