Draft 1, Tranquility of Hidden Pollutants
Brad Shumaker

The aesthetic value of rivers is obvious, and everyone has experienced that scene at some point. Since coming to Miami I have found that a great number of people use the creak tributaries for napping, hiking, thinking, and a hundred other reasons. The purpose of my project will be to get a real perspective of the beauty and use that the rivers provide to students around our campus. I hope to display this through photography and video. The beauty of the river, as we have discussed in class, is a large part of why we need to preserve them.
Along with displaying the ways in which the river is used, I want to conduct water quality tests and walk around the river, again showing given pollution through video and photography.
I want to tie together the ideas of beauty and pollution, showing how what we take for granted isn’t going to be here forever, and something must be done. My basic plan is to jump start one of the first things done in environmental conservation – the spread of awareness.
My assumptions are that I will be able to find people that are willing to talk and show what their experiences with the river consist of – I already know I can do this. Another assumption that I am making that I am unsure about is that the river is going to have some forms of pollutants.
