Historical Look at the Biodiversity Surrounding Four-Mile Creek

This topic submitted by Majida Sai'da Al-Husaam ( alhusams@muohio.edu ) on 1/22/03. [ Rivers Team: Majida Sai'da Al-Husaam-Section: Blaisdell/Wolfe]

My proposal for the Rivers: An Interdisciplinary Studies Perspectives research project is to study the history of Four-Mile creek and its surrounding areas in terms of its biodiversity. I would like to research how the flora and fauna has existed (or has been led to extinction) by the changes in industry and "development" in the Four-Mile creek area. The questions that I would pose are: How have the different groups who have settled around Four-Mile creek interacted with the wildlife around the creek and what affect have their interactions had? What have been the transitions in various species in terms of size, populations, etc? How do or how would changes in the chemical compositions (for example increasing the acidity in the water, then adding lyme to the water to neutralize the acid content, but then realizing that it only creates a saline solution) in the creek affect the different organisms living in the creek.

That's it. Hope that it's groovy.
