Hueston Woods and Acton Lake/Four Mile Creek

This topic submitted by David Smith ( SMITHDB1@muohio.edu ) on 1/28/03. [ Rivers Team: David Smith-Section: Cummins/Kaufman]

I have edited my previous idea because i have found it to be too general.
I would like to focus more on the area around Acton Lake, which is most of Hueston Woods. I would examine the cultural, social, and environmental impacts that Hueston Woods Park has had on Acton Lake.

Culturally, I could find what recreational purposes Acton Lake provides for people visiting Hueston Woods, such as fishing, boating, and swimming. I could find out how many people use the Lake for recreational purposes each year and how many local residents visit the area compared to non-locals.

Socially, I could examine the legislation and laws that protect that part of the lake around Hueston Woods. I could also examine what policies the park service issue and enforce according to the preservation of the area. I could also look at the history of the parks' existence and the reason why the area was chosen to be conserved.

Environmentally, I could study the quality of the water in Acton Lake in Hueston Woods. I could look to see how well the forests around the Lake prevent errosion and also if there is any pollution in the lake that is induced by humans. I can also look at the different species of fish and other organisms that live in and next to the Lake.
