I like the idea of following a particle or particles downstream. It would also be interesting to ask in a natural river system what travels upstream -- in terms of biology, chemistry, etc.

One issue is the carrying capacity of water for sediments, etc. Dams cause rivers to drop the sediments they are carrying and increase the capacity of the river to take away more sediments. What are the consequences of this for overall water quality, erosion and other issues. The tie in to the human would could be explored through the old woman, but there are a lok of important issues she could be thinking about. I think this is part of what could be a very interesting idea. -Chris
