narrative contextualization

This topic submitted by Ryan Pearl ( pearlrc@muohio.edu ) on 1/26/03. [ Rivers Team: Ryan Pearl-Section: Blaisdell/Wolfe]

At the heart of interdisciplinarity as a whole is the idea of contextualization; taking specific instances, places, objects, and occurences and placing them inside a variety of reference points or perspectives. As an idea for the project on four mile creek, this idea of contextualization can be applied to the creek itself by using a variety of differing perspectives to critically analyze the role that the creek plays in each of their different contexts. The different perspectives could be different people who live near or far from the creek, different animals that live by the creek, or different aspects of the environment itself that is a part of and surrounds the creek. Through all of these different perspectives, narrative expressions of the significance and affect of the creek can be portrayed to understand more comprehensively the creek as a whole.
