We have been busy busy girls these past few weeks, for serious. Let's see, since we last posted we've accomplished quite a lot toward our end goal: getting this done! Over spring break we went to Hawaii (it was fantabulous!) and one sunny afternoon we visited a stream near the University of Hawaii to make observations, take photographs, and to take samples. We were successful at all three and had fun doing it. But we have yet to be successful at getting the samples back here to Oxford. First of all we forgot them when we came home. And then we tried to get Adam (our friend in HI) to mail them to us but that too was unsuccessful because the postal service thought that Adam was trying to mail us liquid drugs and then they found Abby's lost wallet and ran her credit card to see who the wallet belonged to and it came up as stolen, and needless to say it was a big mess. Our next attempt is going to be FedEx. We shall see.
Since our trip Abby has done a lot of reading on paradise and HI. She's read Quest for Paradise, on paradise myths around the world and writings by Mike Twain, Jack London, James Michener, and other travel writers about Hawaii. She has also developed our pictures from Hawaii and have found some that we will for sure use in our project. Last week we trekked to Hueston Woods to make observations, take photographs, and take samples of 4 mile creek. Unfortunetly we couldn't find a place along the stream that was narrow enough to do what we needed to do. So we were going to get back in the car and look for a narrower spot but alas Abby's car wouldn't start! So we scratched that trip. Then today we travelled to Hueston woods yet again. Today we were successful! Our plans for the rest of our project are to test our samples, analyze our date, do more research, and start writing our final project.
