Some of the unique benefits of inquiry-based learning is the freedom of choice. When students believe they have an option, they are more eager to learn. Other unique benefits are its ability to utilize cooperative groups, its motivational factors, and its authenticity. Many students and teachers can benefit from this technique because of it allows flexibility, has a high interest level, and promotes natural critical thinking occurences. Some of inquiry-based learning challenges are its fast pace and its need for some planning. It is also challenging because students need to be taugh how to decipher important information from irrelevant information.
Inquiry-learning can be easily adapted to my classroom. I have started an "Inquiry Question of the Day", and I have been encouraging more self-directed research. As with all my experiments, I have them go through the Scientific Method.
