WEEK TWO (Feb 22-26)

Assignment: Respond to at least one discussion question and a posted response made by one or more workshop participants.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Can you describe in your own words what inquiry-based learning is? What are the unique challenges and benefits of it? How have you incorporated inquiry in the classroom?

2. Select one of the flight inquiries in the Field Guide or in the Dragonfly Teacher’s Companion. This inquiry can be one you actually tried in the class or simply one that you read. Can you explain what makes it an inquiry? Did or would you change the inquiry as written? What changes did or would you make? Why? Did or would the changes continue to make it inquiry-based?

3. If you and your students were able to have access to computers and to try the technology components included in the Field Guide, how did they work? What did you come up with for your Acceptable Use Policy? Do you think the Internet can advance students’ knowledge of flight? Why or why not?

4. How did or would you incorporate the video into the flight inquiries? What advice would you offer others about using educational videos in the classroom? Do you think videos can be an effective way of increasing students’ understanding of flight?

If possible, invite students, parents, and administrators to participate in the creation of the policy. When completed, have each student and a parent sign the form.
